Start with access. If ChatGPT’s search crawler cannot reach the website, rewriting the headline will not resolve that problem. Once access is working, the page still needs to answer the question someone asked.
Search and training use different controls
OpenAI’s crawler documentation identifies OAI-SearchBot for search and GPTBot for potential model-training use. The controls are independent. A site owner can allow the search crawler while disallowing the training crawler.
Ask whoever maintains the site to check robots.txt and hosting or firewall rules together. An allow rule in one place does not override a block elsewhere. A normal browser loading the page is useful evidence, but it does not prove the crawler is allowed.
Check what the public page contains
Choose one important service page. Does it identify the service, explain who it is for, and state where the business works? Are the details available as text, or only inside an image? Can a visitor follow a normal link to the page?
For Russco Enterprises, the material includes excavation, clearing, equipment, and project context. Those facts give a reader something to evaluate. A paragraph saying the company offers excellent service would not do the same job.
Test the answer without treating it as a ranking
If you check an AI answer, record the product, date, exact question, cited pages, and what it said. Keep a wrong business fact separate from a missing recommendation; they require different investigations.
A single response is an observation, not a permanent position. A corrected crawler setting does not guarantee that the business will be selected. Use the record to find factual gaps and follow up on access, then review actual referral and inquiry records where available.
What we check
Our SEO and AI search work connects technical access with service writing and relevant project evidence. The aim is a page that a customer can use when they reach it, with platform controls checked against current documentation.
What to ask your website developer to check
Give the developer a specific public URL, not just the business name. Ask for the response status, applicable robots.txt rules, page indexing controls, and any firewall challenge encountered. A successful browser visit and a permitted crawler request are different checks.
A useful handoff might read: “Please check whether OAI-SearchBot can retrieve our excavation service page, whether the main service text is in the returned or rendered page, and whether a security rule challenges that request.” This is a sample request, not a test result for a particular site.
Keep private pages blocked. Search access is not a reason to expose an admin area, customer records, or a staging copy. Once the public page is accessible, use the AI-answer correction worksheet if the remaining problem is a wrong fact in an answer.
